As described by Katherine Downing Myers and Peter B Myers ......."The Myers Briggs type Indicator (MBTI) instrument is a unique phenomenon in the history of psychological testing........."Since the beginning, all developmental work on the MBTI instrument has been driven by a consciously formulated mission statement and philosophy. The mission statement contains and continues the vision, mission and goals of Myers and Briggs: "to enable individuals to grow through an understanding and appreciation of individual differences in healthy personality and to enhance harmony and productivity among diverse groups."
The MBTI instrument was developed by Isabel Myers and Katharine Briggs as an application of Carl Jung's theory of psychological types. This theory suggests that we have opposite ways of:- gaining energy , gathering or becoming aware of information, opposite ways of decision making and opposite ways of dealing with the world around us. The MBTI is available as Step I which provides the candidate with an analysis of their 8 personality preferences and as Step II which provides the candidate with an in depth exploration of the facets of each personality preference.
MBTI has for many years been used as a basis for developing a greater understanding of self and leading to a greater understanding of opposite personality profiles.
